CALDWELL, Idaho (CBS 2) — It's been said that a smile is happiness found right under your nose. A Caldwell man now has a new reason to smile.
Chance O'Dell, of Caldwell, was overcome with emotion when his name was announced by Boise oral surgeon Dr. Scott Bobst as the finalist for a $50,000 smile makeover.
When asked what work he needs to be done, O'Dell, who only has four teeth, replied, "Everything..."
"I've always given everything to my kids, they always ask why. I don't pay for my own. I'm a truck diver, don't have insurance, growing up I never seen a dentist, my father was a logger. We lived in a small town."
O'dell was selected after an extensive screening process.
"We had 500 people apply, so it's exciting that we can help somebody but also it's a big thought to think there are this many people that need help in this area," Dr. Bobst said. "Using dental implants and attaching fixed teeth changes everything, it goes from something where you can barely function and eat to something that feels like natural teeth again."
"Not being in pain any more, being able to take family photos where I can smile again," O'Dell said. "Well worth it."
Dr. Bobst says he started this program about three years ago as a way to give back to the community.
