The X-Men's Gambit has been a major mutant heartthrob since the early '90s, but his 2022 Hellfire Gala outfit takes it to a whole new level.
The mutants of the X-Men are notorious for being some of the sexiest superheroes at Marvel Comics, but the rogue-ish Gambit, with his stunning good looks and surprisingly sensitive personality, takes the cake as X-Fan's biggest crush. While Gambit has been a major heartthrob since the '90s his 2022 Hellfire Gala costume shows exactly why X-Men fans are absolutely obsessed with the former thief.
Created by X-Men legends Chris Claremont and Jim Lee, Remy LeBeau was first introduced in 1990's Uncanny X-Men Annual #14 and has been a staple of the X-Men comics since, acting as friend, foe, and anti-hero. Gambit, a proud Louisiana native who speaks in a thick Cajun accent, was first introduced as more of a "ladies' man" in the '90s, but a softer and more sensitive side to his rough outer exterior was quickly unveiled, especially around his long time love interest Rogue.
It is easy to tell why anyone would be physically attracted to Remy, he has model good lucks and an absolutely stellar physique, but the reason he became such an overnight heartthrob is more than just his looks. In fact, Gambit's costume for the X-Men's 2022 Hellfire Gala, designed by talented Marvel artist Russell Dauterman, is a perfect representation of what makes Remy so lovable and the clear winner for #1 X-Men heartthrob. Gambit's costume is all at once tough, sexy, revealing, vulnerable, and feminine, showing that Gambit has never been afraid to embrace the duality inside of him. He may have a dangerous past, but he also has an extremely sensitive and loving side. Remy's power signature and regular outfit color is always a vibrant pink and purple, not as typical in straight male superheroes at Marvel, showing how willing he is to lean into his feminine, softer side. While of course having Remy not wear a shirt helps a lot in establishing him as a mutant sex icon, his sensitive and vulnerable half is what really makes him a top tier X-Men lover, similarly to why Colossus is up there on the list of mutant heartthrobs.
Rogue and Gambit have long been the X-Men's "It couple," and recently got spontaneously married, finally putting an end to their years' long "will they, won't they" dynamic. However it is the polite and gentle way that Gambit has loved Rogue that really made fans fall in love with him. Not only does he 100 percent understand her inability to touch him physically, never pressuring or shaming her, but he has also allowed Anna Marie the time to explore herself in other relationships while always making sure she knew that he was there for her when she was ready. Gambit has grown a lot as a character, especially after it was revealed that he worked for Mister Sinister and helped to organize the horrific Mutant Massacre in the '80s, and he has now become a much more honorable and compassionate man. Currently starring in the new Knights of X as one of the titular ten knights, it seems like Gambit will be taking on a leadership role as he fights for the freedom of Otherworld, with Rogue left behind on Krakoa.
Gambit will never shy away from a thirst trap, but he also will always be free to let you cry on his shoulder and give you some good advice, probably leaving you with a massive crush on him while he goes back to bed with Rogue! Gambit will always be X-Fan's biggest X-Men crush, but at the end of the day he and his wife Rogue will always be end game.
